THIS WORLD IS UNREAL LIKE A SNAKE IN A ROPE
THIS WORLD IS UNREAL LIKE A SNAKE IN A ROPE
A journey to the heart of Dravidian Tamil Nadu, through the eternal never-ending collage that is INDIA. Featuring Hindu trance ceremonies, free jazz nagaswaram improvisations, deafening cities, processions, devotion, color, abstractions, music and more. India is too vast and rich to ever know: offered here is one perspective, one dream, subjective and flawed, hanging by a thread, captured live in the moment and in the midst. One trip in the order it happened. Not quite documentary. Not quite ethnography. A film by Robert Millis
LAND OF THE SONGHAI
Hisham Mayet’s latest film explores the music and landscape of Songhai country in Western Niger. Traveling down the Niger River, Mayet's camera encounters Zarma mock possession hoedowns, Wodaabe trance vocal performances, spirit possession ceremonies, Godje one string laments, Contigi string masters, Comsaa griots and Sahel night markets, creating a dynamic and fascinating glimpse into this arid but culturally vibrant bend in the Niger river.
Directors in attendance so you can blame them in person.
